Key insights during lunch break
20 November 2024 at 1 P.M. (online)
Our online lecture NIM Insights Lunch will take place on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 at 1 P.M. on the topic of our current issue of the NIM Marketing Intelligence Review ‘Platform Business’.
Platform companies have revolutionised the global economy. Their networked ecosystems not only facilitate interactions between consumers, developers and service providers, but also create significant added value for all parties involved. Pioneers such as Amazon, Apple, Alibaba and Uber are outstanding examples of this change - they have continuously expanded their range of services and driven innovation.
However, the enormous success of digital platforms also has its downsides: on the one hand, platforms such as Airbnb and YouTube offer millions of consumers an incredible range of goods and services - very conveniently and often very cheaply. On the other hand, powerful platforms are confronted with data protection problems, can threaten the existence of local companies and facilitate behavioural manipulation. How can companies operate successfully in this complex field of tension?
Andrei Hagiu and Bobby Zhou are the guest editors of the NIM Marketing Intelligence Review on the topic of platform business. Hagiu, Professor of Information Systems at Boston University Questrom School of Business, and Zhou, Professor of Marketing at Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, summarise the most exciting extractions from the issue for you in this Insights Lunch.
