CROWDFUNDING: How Companies and Consumers are Creating a New Economy Together
(the talk was given in German)
Markus Sauerhammer is responsible for collaboration at the Startnext crowdfunding platform. Startnext is the largest crowdfunding community for creative and sustainable ideas, projects and start-ups in the German-speaking region. Since the Startnext platform was established in 2010, the “crowd” has collected more than €38.7 million and successfully financed more than 4,500 projects. Together with Startnext’s partners, Markus Sauerhammer develops innovative funding and co-financing models for projects and start-ups. He previously spent five years at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer – IHK) in Munich supporting start-ups. Here, he accompanied more than 1,500 founders on the path towards self-sufficiency and established a new range of services for crowdfunding.
The potential for a brand-new start-up and innovation culture lies in crowdfunding.
Through the growth in digital networking, people have the opportunity not only to share ideas quickly and inexpensively with many other people but also to engage in direct financing. At the same time, crowdfunding is much more than just a financing tool – it turns traditional financing on its head by incorporating (future) users into the process.
In his lecture, Markus Sauerhammer explained how crowdfunding works and showed by means of practical examples how companies and founders can use crowdfunding for a demand-driven innovation policy. The topics addressed by Markus Sauerhammer provided food for thought and led to further discussion.
