Virtual Consumer Experiences - The Future of Shopping in the Metaverse
Key insights at lunchtime
November 23, 2023
Speaker:
Prof. Dr. Jella Pfeiffer, Professor of General Business Administration and Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart and guest editor of our marketing journal NIM Marketing Intelligence Review “Virtual Consumer Experiences - The Future of Shopping in the Metaverse". At the NIM Insights Lunch, she summarized important findings of the issue (online event, presentation in German).
What was the NIM Insights Lunch about?
Traveling through space and time, flying into space, diving into the depths of the ocean and everything else mankind could wish for: what was long considered science fiction is now becoming reality thanks to technological progress, especially with head-mounted displays. Today new worlds are constantly being created in games, at events and in retail. Consumers experience virtual products, e.g. digital twins, virtual real estate tours and many AR applications such as try-ons or product demos. Some companies are experimenting in the virtual space, and some are doing so very successfully. Nevertheless, many questions remain unanswered: What is possible? What will be possible? What is effective and what is just a gimmick?
Issue 2/2023 of the NIM Marketing Intelligence Review deals precisely on these questions - as did the NIM Insights Lunch. On November 23, new findings on the use of virtual and augmented reality in retail were presented and the opportunities and challenges of these technologies for brands were discussed.
